Mass testing shows COVID-19 contagion stopped
EFFORTS to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Pangasinan may have already flattened the curve after only one tested positive out of the 200 cases that were subjected to mass testing in hotspots in the province.
Provincial Information Officer Butch Velasco said the only case that turned positive was of a 15-year-old girl from Barangay Dupac in Asingan, a close relative of a 29-year-old male who was diagnosed to have COVID-19 after coming from Manila on May 13 and believed to have infected the girl, or a case of local transmission.
All members of the family of the 29-year old COVID-19 patient tested negative except the 15-year-old girl.
Velasco said it showed that only 0. 35 percent turned positive of the 200 individuals.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office awaits the results of the 643 tested cases from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
Velasco said were it nor for the mass testing, the girl’s family would not have known she is a COVID-19 case and was immediately put in strict home isolation.
While the situation is encouraging, Velasco warned that the extremely low percentage of COVID-19 contagion should not be a reason for Pangasinenses to be complacent and relax their guard.
Mass testing was concentrated in towns and cities previously tagged as COVID-19 hot spots: Bayambang, Malasiqui, Basista, Sto. Tomas, Rosales, Asingan, Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Laoac, San Fabian, Dagupan City, Lingayen, Bugallon, Infanta and Alaminos City.
Meanwhile, Velasco tagged as a false alarm reports that a male from Mapandan and a female from Sta. Barbara were afflicted with COVID-19 when the initial Rapid Anti-body Tests conducted on them reportedly turned positive because their subsequent swab tests proved they were negative of COVID-19.
