Checkpoint intercepts smuggling of 3 motorcycles

FUNERAL CAR USED AS COVER

THREE persons thought that they could outwit policemen at checkpoints when they loaded three motorcycles inside a funeral car and attempted to pass these off as cadavers for delivery to Binalonan.

The policemen manning a checkpoint at the entry/exit of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) in Barangay Limmansangan in Binalonan at about 11p.m. on April 28 became suspicious when the three could not present proper travel permits for the cadavers.

The suspects were identified as Billy Joe Ramos, 27, driver; Delcy Garciallan, 24; and Maria Christine Aguirre 18, all from Bulacan who introduced themselves as funeral employees ferrying cadavers to Binalonan when they were flagged down.

The police ordered the driver to open the back of the funeral car when they failed to present a permit to transport dead persons from a municipal health officer in Bulacan and found no cadavers but three motorcycles with no proper documents, suspected to be stolen.

They were initially charged for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Republic Act Nos. 11469 and RA 11332 or violation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine and for breaking the Stay Home policy. They will also be charged with theft if the three motorcycles are determined to have been stolen. (Leonardo Micua)
