TWO barangay councilors (kagawad) in Urbiztondo were arrested after attempting to help residents slip past checkpoints in Villasis in order to escape quarantine in violation of the Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine protocol in the province.

P/ Major Fernando Fernandez, Villasis chief of police, said the two from Barangay Batangcaoa in Urbiztondo were caught wearing their barangay uniforms while escorting their townmates to escape detection.

The seven residents, all jobless after being terminated in their jobs, rented a van from Manila and alighted in Rosales to walk to Urbiztondo through the rice fields where they were met by the suspects in Villasis but were intercepted by the police.

The seven were brought to an isolation area in Barangay Unzad in Villasis.

The kagawads were arrested and will be charged for violating Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code, commonly known as Resistance and disobedience to a person in authority or the agents of such person. (Ahikam Pasion)
