San Carlos City SK lauded for transparency in relief ops
LEAVE it to the young to teach their elders about full transparency in governance.
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) council of Barangay Magtaking in San Carlos City was lauded for its report providing a complete list with prices of the relief items distributed in its Facebook post.
Netizens cited the post at being transparent to constituents is a “noteworthy move that other elected officials may also adopt, and share their best practices in addressing public concerns like a health crisis.”
SK chairperson Lemuel Gio Cayabyab said her fellow officers wanted to bring transparent leadership to their village and be youth role models among their constituents.
“We really need to be transparent all the time to avoid issues of corruption because there are some barangays that have issues on discrepancies in their reports when it comes to liquidation of expenses,” he said.
Cayabyab said SK officials should always find ways on how to efficiently disburse funds in accordance with the law.
He said the council utilized P15,000 DRRM funds and realigned P90,000 from the 2020 Sports Development Fund, and another P15,000 from the health fund while the P7,712.40 was added from his own pocket.
The barangay has 1,140 registered SK members and not only each was given relief packs that cost P112.03 but also to 200 unlisted youths in the barangay.
Items distributed include one kilogram of rice, two packs of biscuit, two sachets of coffee, and two pieces of canned goods. (Jerick Pasiliao)
