San Carlos City lists first COVID-19 death
A three-year-old boy, symptomatic of COVID-19 from Brgy. Mestizo Norte in San Carlos City, died Tuesday afternoon, April 14, at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.
The City Information Office in a Facebook post confirmed that the child had no travel history outside their residence for the past 14 days.
“The patient was categorically considered as PUI (Suspected Case) due to the presence of pneumonia in his cause of death even in the absence of travel or direct exposure from a COVID-19 patient,” it said.
The death certificate for the child showed the immediate cause of death was acute respiratory failure secondary to pediatric community acquired pneumonia.
It was learned that the child also suffered from congenital heart disease and down syndrome. The remains of the child were buried within the 12-hour period protocol.
Meanwhile, the city government earlier identified three probable COVID-19 patients in the city: patient from Barangay Mamarlao tested negative of the virus, while the other two from Barangays Bolingit and Payapa are still waiting results of their swab tests while being isolated in a hospital.
City Mayor Julier Resuello, on April 15, said a police officer from Barangay Turac was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. (Jerick Pasiliao)
