Mayor charged by cop for oral defamation
THE mayor of Mangatarem was charged by a policeman for allegedly disrespecting a person in authority at a checkpoint at the town’s Barangay Dorongan Punta.
According to P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, provincial director, Mangatarem Mayor Ramil Ventenilla was charged with grave oral defamation and is facing administrative charges after shouting invectives at the police officer in a quarantine checkpoint in Dorongan Punta in Mangatarem town.
Maranan identified the complainant as a PSSg Rey Pastor, 38, assigned to the Provincial Mobile Force Company, 1st PMFC Coy based in Alaminos City and a resident of Barangay Bueno in Mangatarem and assigned at the quarantine control checkpoint in Dorongan Punta.
PSSg Pastor was with several LGU representatives guarding the checkpoint when Ventenilla and some unidentified companions arrived at the quarantine control checkpoint and scolded and shouted at them for failing to stop the cargo truck driver heading to town of Urbiztondo.
The mayor refused to accept Pastor’s explanation that the driver of the cargo truck had been checked and was identified as an Authorized Person Outside Residence (APOR).
Meanwhile, several barangay officials were charged in violating the lockdown protocol for attempting to use Barangay Patrol to transport people from Manila to sneak them in past checkpoints.
A barangay tanod was also arrested and charged with spreading of fake news that resulted in panic buying and violation of social distancing.
Some doctors and nurses were also arrested for using IDs as frontliners for other reasons but to report to their duties.
Maranan said the PNP is strictly enforcing physical or social distancing, compulsory wearing of face mask, strict home quarantine and one entry one exit to market entrants and monitoring of authorized persons outside the residence (APOR) and unauthorized person outside residence (UPOR) to help flatten the curve.
For most part, he considered people in Pangasinan are generally compliant with the EECQ protocol. (Nora Dominguez)
