LGUs buy 13,100 sacks for relief operations
MORE BUFFER STOCK IN NFA WAREHOUSES
TOWNS and cities in Pangasinan have already stocked up on rice ready for distribution to barangays.
This as affirmed by Chona Maramba, assistant manager of National Food Authority (NFA) Western Pangasinan, who said that as of Apr. 2, some 13,100 sacks of rice were already procured by local governments ready for their repacking for distribution as relief aid.
She said many towns and cities have started buying since March 14 anticipating the programmed food relief aid for distribution to barangay residents as a result of the declaration of the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
A sack of rice from the NFA is being sold at Php1,250.
Maramba said, NFA Western Pangasinan still has 127,000 sacks in buffer stock to last for the next four months after the frenzy purchasing by the local governments.
Meanwhile, NFA will continue buying palay from local rice farmers to augment the rising demand of procurement by local governments, indicating that at least 1,200 sacks of rice are being milled daily in seven authorized milling stations.
Maramba said there is more than ample supply in the province so there is no reason for the public to go into panic mode and hoard rice. (Jerick Pasiliao)
