IN an official statement on social media, Bayambang Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao admitted that he and his wife Nina tested positive for COVID-19 virus when they had themselves tested on March 16.

Quiambao said on April 1 on the town’s official Facebook page that on March 16, he and his wife, former showbiz personality Niña Jose-Quiambao, decided to have a medical check-up and have themselves tested for COVID-19.

Quiambao and his wife were already on quarantine when he placed Bayambang on Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine from March 21 to 28. It was extended further by executive order of Governor Espino to March 31 because of the death of a doctor from Barangay Bical Sur from COVID-19 on March 20.

He called on the people of Bayambang not to worry because they are doing fine but will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine to be certain they do not put anyone at risk “:as their own way of helping contain the spread of the virus and helping health workers.”

“We are asking for your prayers, not only for us but the whole world as we all try to overcome the pandemic,” the mayor said. At the same time, Quiambao encouraged everyone to stay at home and to wash their hands properly and frequently. In a subsequent post on social media on April 3, Quiambao said he and his wife already fully recovered from COVID-19. (Leonardo Micua /PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
