9 deaths, 14 recovered, 13 others still confined
PROVINCIAL COVID-19 UPDATE
IF the trend continues, Pangasinan hospitals appear to be succeeding in reversing conditions of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
As of April 17, the Provincial Health Office reported that 14 patients positive of COVID-19 have recovered, with no new reported confirmed cases for the five straight days from April 9 to April 13. But on April 15, three more patients were added, one female from Dagupan City and two males from Urdaneta City.
Of the 14 recovered cases, three were discharged from the provincial government- run Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in Bolingit, San Carlos City, the others from the Region 1 Medical Center and other hospitals.
The latest two that recovered were from Dagupan City: a male from Bonuan Gueset and a female from Lucao. Both were wheeled out of the isolation room of the Region 1 Medical Center on April 14 and on to ambulances that brought them home to the jubilation of hospital staff.
Last April 16, a female doctor from Binalonan recovered from COVID-19.

On the other hand, PHO listed 173 Patients Under Investigation (PUIs), at least 54 were confined, 30 had died and 89 recovered.
The 89 PUIs that already recovered outnumber the 28 that died but despite this fact, observers, still believe the number of deaths of PUIs is still worrisome they died before the result of their throat swabs could be released by the Baguio General Hospital.
The 30 PUIs who died were from Lingayen (3), Alaminos City (2), Labrador (2), Bugallon (2), Mapandan (2), Binmaley (2), and one each from Asingan, Bani, Dagupan City, Dasol, Malasiqui, Manaoag, Mapandan, Rosales, San Fabian San Quintin, San Carlos City, Pozorrubio, Umingan, Tayug and Infanta.

Meanwhile, there are 92,638 Persons Under Monitoring (PUM): 86,897 have completed the 14-day home quarantine, 5,363 are under the 14-day home quarantine; 378 failed to complete the prescribed quarantine period.
Ordered on total lockdown to date are Bayambang, Malasiqui, Lingayen, Dagupan City, San Fabian, Alaminos and Urdaneta. There were partial lockdowns in Basista, Bani and in Urbiztondo.
The total lockdown of the province prevented the entry of people from Metro Manila, considered as the epicenter of COVID-19 in the entire country. However, on April 15, a policeman from Camp Crame, who was reported to be COVID-19 positive, managed to come home to Barangay, Turac, San Carlos City despite the closed border between Pangasinan and Tarlac. He was promptly sent back to Manila that day. Mayor Julier Resuello ordered contact-tracing on the persons the policeman had a contact with in San Carlos City.
It was learned that some of those who died, confined and recovered from COVID-19 had history of travel to Manila if not from abroad.
Meanwhile, Gov. Amado Espino III encouraged by the recovery of 14 cases, called on the people not to be complacent, reiterated the reminder for all to stay in their homes and continue to adopt health safety precautions to prevent them from contracting or transmitting the disease.
He commended the frontliners in hospitals, law enforcement and other sectors as he urged the COVID-19 warriors to stay focused and effective in fighting the deadly coronavirus.
“Maraming salamat sa inyong serbisyo sa mga Pangasinense. Walang katumbas ang inyong serbisyo at sakripisyo sa panahon ngayon,” Governor Espino said in a phone call to Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman last April 13. (Leonardo Micua/ PangasinanPIO)
