Sta. Barbara execs nix plan to build isolation hospital for PUIs
THE Sta. Barbara government has vehemently opposed the plan of the provincial government to use the pavilion of the provincial nursery in Barangay Tebag East here as hospital isolation extension for patients under investigation (PUI) of COVID-19.
“We will not agree to such a plan,” said Mayor Joel delos Santos in his Facebook post as he assured his constituents of his opposition to the plan.
He said he was not consulted by the provincial government and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) about it.
“Don’t worry because I will not agree with their plan,” he told his constituents in a screenshot of messages he posted, even as he asked the people to pray together to enlighten their (provincial government and PHO) minds and heart and listen to their sentiments”.
“I will say no to their plans,” he emphasized.
In a special session of the municipal council on March 25, it approved a resolution “strongly opposing the proposed plan of the provincial government of Pangasinan to use the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI)/Provincial Nursery (pavilion) compound located in Barangay Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan as hospital isolation extension for Patient Under Investigation (PUI) of COVID-19”.
However, Provincial Health Officer Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman maintained that the compound is a provincial government property and its use as an extension isolation hospital for PUIs had been identified weeks ago in an inter-agency meeting on COVID-19.
Citing the experience in Tarlac province where residents initially opposed the use of the Athlete’s Village in New Clark City by 30 Pinoy repatriates from Wuhan, the communities realized there was nothing to fear.
She said that PUIs that will be transferred to the Provincial Nursery pavilion will be those who are already well and are only completing their 14-day quarantine period to decongest hospitals and accommodate other patients.
The Provincial Nursery is ideal because of its location and can accommodate at least 30 PUIs at a time, she added. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
