PANGASINENSES need not worry about the supply of rice in the province throughout the declared period of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) because there is ample supply in all towns and cities in the province.

This was assured by the National Food Authority (NFA) Western Pangasinan.

Chona Maramba, assistant manager of NFA (Western Pangasinan), said there are some 1,995,046 bags of rice available for consumption, enough for 140 days or five months.

She said of this number, 181, 623 bags are commercial rice, and the household stock is 1,669,836 bags while government stock is 143, 587 bags and pointed out that 98% are local produced while only two percent are imported.

The rice supply ready for distribution in NFA warehouses in Mangaldan, Lingayen, Mangatarem and Alaminos City were already purchased since September last year.

Meanwhile, NFA local office continues to buy for the second crop which is ongoing.

“There is no reason for panic-buying here because local government units regularly coordinate with NFA for needed supply in their respective towns and cities.

Local rice sold to accredited NFA retailers is pegged at P25 a kilogram (kg) and sold to the consumers at P27 a kg. “We have plenty of stocks,” Maramba reiterated.

Vietnam rice is sold at P23 a kg.

NFA personnel report for work regularly and warehouses keep regular schedule.

NFA Western Pangasinan covers three cities and 22 towns in the first, second, third and part of the fourth districts. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
