Gastroenteritis kills 5, downs 1,342

SOME 1,342 persons suffered from acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and five have already died during the period January 1 to February 24 this year, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The number of victims recorded was however 11 percent lower than the 1,550 cases and eight deaths recorded for the same period last year.

Of the fatalities recorded this year, two were from Dagupan and one each from San Carlos City, Sta. Barbara and Binmaley

Top 10 municipalities for AGE this year include San Carlos City, 97 cases; Mangaldan, 87; Lingayen, 69; Calasiao, 63; Malasiqui, 62; Dasol, 587; Bayambang, 56; Umingan, 49; Binmaley, 44; and Sta. Barbara, 38.

On typhoid, there were 24 registered cases for the same period this year compared to 28 last year or 14 percent lower.

San Carlos City again topped in typhoid with five cases, followed by Binmaley, 3; Sison, 2; Calasiao, 2; and Alaminos City, two.

Meanwhile, measles was down this year at only 54 as compared to 353 for the same period last year.

No rabies case has been registered in Pangasinan compared to four last year. (Leonardo Micua)
