De Venecia’s Magna Carta now moving in Congress
ON February 10, the Technical Working Group of the House of Representatives discussed the Magna Carta of Young Farmers proposed by Fourth District Rep. Christopher “Toff” De Venecia.
The proposed legislation aims among others to provide the needed incentives to young Filipinos so that they will be enticed to go back to the farms and make the lands passed on to them by their parents productive again.
It can be recalled that the Magna Carta of Young Farmers was one of the 11 House bills endorsed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to be passed by Congress in order to achieve the economic growth conceived for the country by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Based on the proposed law, a young farmer is known as an individual from 15 to 35 years old whose main source of livelihood is from the fruits of agriculture.
If the bill becomes a law, young farmers will be granted scholarships in state colleges and universities so they can expand their knowledge in the fields of agriculture and fisheries and prepare them in the roles of farmer/fishermen entrepreneurs
The Magna Carta guarantees their rights as persons, including the provision of additional knowledge for them regarding capital, credits, education, training, technology and many others. (Leonardo Micua)
