Dagupan under state of calamity
THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod declared Dagupan City under the state of calamity to enable it to respond effectively to meet the challenges of COVID-19 in the city notwithstanding the fact that the city remains free of the virus.
Councilor Joey Tamayo said a session called Tuesday morning approved Resolution No. 7678-2020 authored by Councilor Cisco Jay Flores that seeks to declare all 31 barangays in the city under state of calamity.
The decision to adopt the resolution was aligned with President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 922, which declares the Philippines under State of Public Health Emergency, and his latest order, putting the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine until April 12, 2020, or until further notice.
Tamayo said the implementation of the ECQ will severely affect many aspects of life in the city and its residents, hence the need to adopt a declaration of state of calamity that will enable the city government to utilize and disburse funds from the Quick Response Fund, primarily to aid displaced Dagupeños.
Meanwhile, Tamayo said he will draft an ordinance that will direct the quarantine of the 31 barangays that will bar residents of one barangay to enter another barangay.
To be exempted will be those covered by the same guidelines stated in the ECQ.
“The proposed ordinance will also cover the enforcement of curfew. That way, we can focus on the barangays “, said Tamayo.
As of March 17, 2PM, the Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) has listed one Dagupeño as Person under Investigation (PUI), while 214 have been classified as Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) undergoing 14-day self-quarantine in the city. (Ahikam Pasion)
