Church bells peal 6 p.m. daily in Alaminos Diocese
CALL TO PRAYER AMID COVID-19
CHURCH bells at the Diocese of Alaminos started to peal for 10 minutes every 6:00 p.m. since March 19 as a call to prayer as a pastoral response to COVID-19 crisis.
Bishop Fidelis Layog, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Alaminos wrote in a circular, “Let the Church bells be the sound of our complete faith and trust to God, our Healer as we pray for our families and fellow countrymen for stronger faith amidst the crisis.”
“We believe in the healing power of prayer as the best means to combat the threats of COVID-19,” he added.
Layog said the faithful started to observe the Days of Prayer for Healing on March 19, the feast of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, until April 2, Feast of St. Pedro Calungsod.
Meanwhile, a Holy Hour of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is scheduled in all Parish Churches at a time determined by the parish priest in consultation with the parish lay leaders.
He also said that in all Masses, a Prayer of the Faithful shall include a special intention for all those in the medical profession, care and assistance. “We pray for their protection as they regularly expose themselves to the threat of infection. Their sacrifices save the lives of others and their families,” the bishop wrote.
He announced that Sunday Masses in the Cathedral will be aired through the diocese’s radio station, DZWM –AM 891 kHz for the benefit of parishioners with compromised immune system, senior citizens and those who are ill, following the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ guidelines.
“Prayer is another basic practice taught by our parents. We are taught that in our prayer, we entrust ourselves, our families and country to God, our Heavenly Father who knows the needs of His children. We are taught well in our faith.
