BJMP Dagupan is “safest place” in the city

MORE than 600 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Dagupan City are staying in the “safest place” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was how Jail Officer 1 Gizelle Marie Panergo described the situation inside the facility aid which has been in total lockdown following the order of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año to ensure that stricter measures are in place to protect the jail workers and PDLs from the deadly virus.
Under total lockdown, PDLs are not allowed to receive visitors and BJMP employees are not also allowed to leave the facility.
Panergo the lockdown was already imposed since President Duterte declared Enhanced Community Quarantine, by lifting visitation rights of PDLs even as the health of PDLs are regularly checked to monitor their health condition.
She said coughing and sneezing are well controlled inside the facility and social distancing and other precautionary measures against COVID-19 are strictly enforced.
“This is the safest place now because we do not allow visitors and we do not allow anything to be brought for the PDLs,” Panergo said. “We have to protect ourselves, too, because we are facing PDLs so we also have to be safe,” she added.
She said they have enough supply of emergency medicine and hygiene kits for the PDLs and these are augmented by donations from well-meaning groups. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
