LINGAYEN Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil was found negative of COVID-19 when he submitted himself to a confirmation test at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) after a Fil-Aussie woman whom he met at a class reunion in Dagupan City tested positive.

Bataoil was one of the 150 persons who had a close contact with a Pangasinense, now a citizen of Australia, in a class reunion when she returned home on March 2.

“God is truly good to us, the RITM result just came in, I am negative of COVID-19, Praise God,” Bataoil wrote in his Facebook account Tuesday.

Bataoil added, “Thank you to all for your prayers! If it was my time, I would be happy to leave this earth having served our people, but I will be bothered by my conscience if it was positive because I would have infected a lot with the nature of my job, “touching people’s lives”.

He said he volunteered for RITM testing soon as he learned of the status of the Fil-Aussie who joined the class reunion.

“Although, no symptoms in 14 days, I went thru it to allay the fears of my people. Thank God, now I can go on performing my work without any worry. I’ve been stressed many nights,” Bataoil said. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
