Pangasinan PNP targets all barangays “drug-cleared”

THE Pangasinan
Police Provincial Office (PPPO) further intensified its illegal drug clearing
operations in the province in close coordination with the Barangay Anti-Drug
Abuse Council (BADAC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), aiming
to make all barangays in the province drug-cleared.
According to P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, PPPO provincial Director, eradicating
illegal drugs remain as the priority of Pangasinan PNP, focusing on the middle
level street pushing to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs.
The PNP is a support unit of the BADAC in the war on illegal drugs.
As of January 30, there are already 1,035 barangays in the province (81.24%) as
drug-cleared, from the previous 1,027 last month after PDEA declared eight more
barangays in Balungao town drug-cleared: Esmeralda, Kitakita, Mauban,
Poblacion, Rajal, San Aurelio 1st, San Juaquin and San Raymundo.
To date, 234 barangays remain affected while 93 are drug unaffected barangays.
Alaminos City and the municipalities of Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Bayambang,
Bugallon, Burgos, Calasiao, Dasol, Laoac, Lingayen, Labrador, Mabini, Malasiqui,
Mangaldan, Mangatarem, Mapandan, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, Sison, Sta.
Barbara, Sta. Maria, Tayug, Urbiztondo and Villasis were earlier declared as
officially drug cleared and Sto. Tomas as the lone drug-free municipality.
San Nicolas and Basista are still awaiting their official declaration as drug
cleared towns.
Also waiting declaration of the Regional Sub-committee as drug-cleared are the
towns of Asingan, Balungao, Bani, Binmaley, Bolinao, Infanta, Manaoag, Pozorrubio,
San Fabian, Sual, Umingan, and San Carlos City.
Dagupan City and San Quintin town have also been endorsed by the PDEA, pending validation
by the Provincial Sub-Committee.
Barangay Poblacion East in Agno town was recently reverted to drug-affected
barangay. Other barangays that lost Barangay Primicias in Bautista, Barangay
Bugayong in Binalonan, Barangay San Vicente in San Jacinto and Barangay San
Vicente in Urdaneta City.
Maranan said in his 7-point agenda that serves as a road map in 2020 is the neutralization of the top 10 drug personalities in each town.
He said he aims to have the province cleared from illegal drugs this year through the cooperation of BADAC and PDEA. (Nora Dominguez)
