Discipline needed to protect a household

THE news about the confirmation of one vCoronovirus case in the country has caused some panic in towns and cities in the province, as if a green-eyed giant monster has appeared in the neighborhood.  There is no such thing but a virus that can be contained and prevented from affecting one’s household.

The protocol and process to avoid being easily contaminated by the virus are practical and easy. It doesn’t need a scientist to understand it. We only need to adopt discipline in five situations.

First the discipline to require every family member to wash hands properly and as often.

Second, the discipline to be conscious about not spreading a potential virus in the family. If one has a cold and sneezes, that member of the family must be handed a face mask or a towel or anything to cover both the nose and the mouth to prevent a cold or mucous to leave the face.

Third, the discipline not to leave the safety and comfort of one’s home unless extremely necessary. And if one must leave, observe first and second discipline.

Fourth, the discipline to bring a family member who acquired the flu symptom and bad cold, to a hospital for initial diagnose. The readiness to be quarantined makes the rest of the household feel safer and free of the virus.

And fifth, the discipline to be self-reliant, and readiness to fully comply with directives of government, and not to fully rely on government to contain the virus.

Anyone can either be a carrier of the virus or the effective ‘vaccine’ to contain the vCoronovirus in our community. The choice is yours.

Act quickly

CHINA is mighty but, with an attack of a tiny virus called corona, it might now be in peril.  Already, 106 Chinese had died and nearly 5,000 are sick due to the virus emerging in Wuhan in September. Almost 100 others are also down in more than 12 countries.

Thankfully, not one among some 150 Filipinos in Wuhan has been struck by the virus while some 30 patients here—all foreigners, said Health chief Francisco Duque—with virus symptoms are under observation.

Starting last Monday, Immigration has cancelled visas to Chinese upon arrival here, a move strongly supported by Sen. Bong Go, head of the Senate health committee. Will President Duterte please order Secretary Duque to double, if not triple, his efforts to block the virus?  Immediately.
