5 coastal areas declared red tide-free
FIVE coastal areas in Western Pangasinan have been declared red tide-free and all types of shellfish, including Acetes sp. or alamang gathered in the area, are fit for human consumption.
The declaration was based on the latest laboratory analyses conducted by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region.
BFAR’s Shellfish Bulletin No. 03 dated Feb. 6, 2020 said those gathered from the coastal areas in Alaminos City, Bani, Bolinao, Anda and Sual are free of toxic red tide and are safe for human consumption.
The advisory from the office of BFAR Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden said as a precautionary measure, however, the five local government units are advised to require their market inspectors, quarantine officers, administrators to demand traders for “Auxiliary Invoice” from the point of origin or Local Transport Permit issued by BFAR for all fish and fishery products including seashells unloaded and marketed to ensure that it did not come from areas positive of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning.
