Four barangays in Binmaley under ASF surveillance
SURVEILLANCE of four barangays in Binmaley will continue for the next 30 days after hogs in backyard piggery in Barangay Linoc died from African Swine Fever (ASF) last December.
Fernando Ferrer, municipal agriculturist, said the four barangays, Canaoalan, Gayaman and Poblacion, will be closely monitored for possible spread of ASF after 21 pigs in Linoc were found positive of infection.
Before the ASF affectation, Barangay Linoc had 31 swine raisers with 315 heads of pigs while Canaoalan had 32 hog raisers with 184 heads. Gayaman and Poblacion data on pig population are not available as of presstime.
Ferrer said government veterinarians were in Gayaman on Wednesday to collect 30 blood samples and are expected to collect blood samples in Poblacion this week because of a report that dead pigs suspected to have been affected by ASF were recently buried.
Blood samples from 30 pigs were collected in Canaoalan this week. The blood samples will be submitted to the Bureau of Animal Industry Central Office.
Ferrer confirmed that 21 pigs in Linoc owned by Shirley Limor were culled Tuesday due to ASF. Last month, 24 pigs owned by Elma Ferrer died due to ASF while 21 others were culled.
Meanwhile, Ferrer clarified that the 34 pigs were actually located in a backyard piggery in Barangay Lucao in Dagupan City but the owner has her postal address in Linoc, Binmaley.
“But the location (of the piggery) is no longer the issue. We have to contain this,” Ferrer said.
He said a ‘no-movement policy’ for pigs within the one-kilometer has been implemented and quarantine checkpoints have been set up in the entry and exit points in Linoc, Ferrer said.
The Department of Agriculture will extend P5,000 while the provincial and municipal local government units will give separately P1,000 each per culled pig after proper documentation is completed.
