IS Dagupan City ready to meet the threat of polio?

This question was posed by Councilor Dennis Canto, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on health and asked that the OIC City Health Officer Dr. Erlinda Cuison be invited to attend the next session of the city council to report on the CHO’s immunization program in the city.

Canto specifically wants to find out if the supply of anti-polio vaccines is adequate for all the children in Dagupan, and how the vaccines are administered especially in far-flung areas like Pugaro.

He said a child needs to be administered three anti-polio vaccines before he or she becomes immune to the disease. 

“As far as polio is concerned, we are ready to help by passing the legislation needed to help address the problem.” Canto said.  

Canto said Dagupeños also need to be assured that a protocol and contingency plans are in place to counter the SARS-like coronavirus. (Leonardo Micua)
