THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office intensified its campaign against illegal firecrackers in line with the government’s ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok’ to prevent firecracker incidents before and during the New Year revelry. 

The launching was marked by a simultaneous motorcade by all the police stations in all towns and cities.

P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, ordered all police stations to confiscate all illegal fireworks and legal fireworks sold outside the designated pyrotechnic device zones or firecracker zones.    

He reminded households and manufacturers that it is illegal to store fireworks in houses after two fires broke out in Dagupan City caused by stored fireworks. 

He said manufacturers are required to store their supply at a designated area. 

Last Saturday afternoon, a house in Sitio Boquig in Brgy. Bacayao Norte in Dagupan City owned by Eduardo Romero and Lolita Romero was razed. The couple was injured in the explosion. 

The neighboring house was also damaged.     

So far, 29 persons have applied for permits to manufacture and sell firecrackers in Pangasinan. 

Considered banned for manufacture and sale are ‘piccolo’, ‘super lolo’, ‘atomic bomb’, ‘large judas belt’, ‘large bawang’, ‘pillbox’, ‘bosa’, ‘goodbye Philippines’, ‘bin laden’, ‘mother rocket’, ‘lolo thunder’, ‘coke in can’, ‘atomic bomb’, ‘five star’, ‘pla pla’, ‘giant whistle bomb’, ‘kabasi’ and ‘watusi’. (Nora Dominguez)
