Measles on rampage in Pangasinan in 2019
LINGAYEN–Although measles tapered down during the second semester of this year, it still is the number one cause for morbidity among children in Pangasinan with 1,485 suspected cases this year against 415 in 2018.
Of the number, 217 cases or 30 percent were confirmed in a laboratory analysis.
The Provincial Health Office’s records show that cases of measles already started with 206 suspected cases in January and reached its peak in February with 476 cases and in March that afflicted 386 children.
Cases of measles were low and steady from June to the second week of December.
Dr. Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman, provincial health officer, attributed the increase in measles cases this year to the reluctance of parents to bring their toddlers to rural health centers for anti-measles vaccination and other type of vaccines on account of the Dengvaxia scare.
The top 10 municipalities/cities in PHO’s watch list for measles today are Dagupan, 222 cases; San Carlos City, 128; Lingayen, 98; Calasiao, 95; Alaminos City,78; Malasiqui, 74; Bugallon, 65; Binmaley, 61; San Fabian, 53; Mangaldan, 47; and Santa Barbara, 48. (Leonardo Micua)
