Dagupan, San Carlos cited for overall competitiveness

THE component cities of Dagupan and San Carlos have been cited by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as among the top component cities in overall competitiveness in the Ilocos region in 2019 based on the results of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).

Dagupan City ranks first, while San Carlos City is on the third spot. San Fernando City (LU) ranks second under component cities.

The Dagupan City government is rated highest in government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency. San Carlos City ranks second in government efficiency.

Under first to second municipalities’ overall competitiveness category, Bayambang is third. Agoo and Bauang (LU) are first and second. 

Under third to sixth class municipalities, Tayug is third. (Sto. Domingo and Bantay, of Ilocos Sur are first and second respectively)

No city in Pangasinan rated high in economic dynamism. (Highest is San Fernando City (LU) first, followed by Candon City (Ilocos Sur), and Vigan City (Ilocos Sur), for component cities in the region.

Rosales town tops the infrastructure category among first to second class municipalities, followed by Malasiqui and Lingayen.

Meanwhile, La Union province is named as the most competitive province in Ilocos region.

The CMCI results was published by DTI-1 on their official Facebook page on Dec.12.

According DTI, the CMCI is an annual ranking of different cities and municipalities in the country based on a tool developed by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC).

The framework of the CMCI is drawn from the goal to make the country more globally competitive by measuring local competitiveness based on four major criteria – economic dynamism, government efficiency, Infrastructure, and resiliency. (Helen Martin)
