ARMED with a search warrant, the Dagupan City Police raided an illegal firecracker factory in Sitio Boquig, Barangay Bacayao Norte in Dagupan City that resulted in the arrest of the house owner and seizure of assorted illegal firecrackers.    

Authorities said five thousand pieces different types of banned fireworks were found and seized at the residence of t Sherwin Quilang, 48, who was caught making firecrackers assisted by a minor when the raiding team arrived.   

Among the firecrackers found were explosives like plapla, kwitis, fountains, triangulo, Judas belts.  Also found in his house were black powder and other substances for manufacturing firecrackers.    

The raid was carried out after P/ Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, ordered all the chiefs of police in the province to confiscate all banned firecrackers through buy-bust and test-buy in all suspected trading areas in the province in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive.

At the same time, Maranan also issued a stern warning to all police personnel in the province against discharging their issued firearms during the holiday season particularly during New Year revelry.  (Nora Dominguez)
