Pangasinan bags 3 major awards
ESPINO’S FIRST 4 FOUR MONTHS
LINGAYEN–In his first four months on his second term of office, Gov. Amado Espino III earned for the province three major awards, the biggest of which is its Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award, the province’s fifth.
This was announced during a program after the traditional flag-raising ceremony at the Capitol Plaza here on Nov. 18, where the three awards were presented to officials and employees.
The first of these awards was for being adjudged as a national finalist for the provincial level in the search for 2019 Most Friendly Local Government Unit which was awarded by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a ceremony at PICC in Taguig City.
The award exemplified the commendable achievements of Pangasinan towards reforms in trade and investments that significantly contributed to the economic development of the province.
This award was in recognition of the province’s motto as “the best place to invest, work and raise a family”.
The second award of the province, which it received sometime in October, was for being adjudged regional champion after being named as the Best National Statistics Month Implementer.
It also bagged the championship in 2018, bringing it nearer to its goal of earning its unprecedented third Hall of Fame (HOF) award in this category.
Pangasinan earned its first HOF award in 2019 after emerging champion consecutively in 2018 and 2019. Its second HOF came in 2016 after emerging champion in 2014 and 2015.
The mother of all awards was, of course, the 2019 SGLG award which was received by Gov. Espino from Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año in a ceremony at the Manila Hotel on Nov. 4.
Pangasinan was only among 17 provinces in the entire country that made it to the 2019 SGLG award despite the more stringent and difficult to meet criteria adopted by DILG.
The province of Pangasinan is actually among only five provinces in the Philippines that consistently won SGLG award since 2015. The others are Isabela, Quirino, Bulacan, and Aklan.
In this year’s SGLG award, Pangasinan has the most number of awardees at 21 as compared to the rest of the provinces that won the award.
Pangasinan is now set to receive a Performance Challenge Fund of P4.5 million for winning its fifth SGLG award.
In his speech, Gov. Espino said the awards were not made possible had it not for the work of all employees, including those who sweep the leaves of trees, those who clean the comfort rooms and those who secure the provincial capitol day and night. (Leonardo Micua)
