Nine-year old drowns in fishpond

MALASIQUI – A nine-year old boy died in a drowning incident in a fishpond.

The victim Richard Ferrer, nine years old, grade 1 pupil, died in the incident in Barangay Talospatang.

According to he police, the victim and his companion Kenneth Carnon, 14, went to a rice field to collect shellfish, locally known as alireg, when they decided to wash their muddy feet in a fishpond nearby.

When Ferrer slipped and his slipper, floated towards the middle of the pond, he attempted to retrieve it not realizing that the pond was 10 feet deep.

 Carnon tried to rescue his companion, but failed. Ferrer’s lifeless body was later recovered. (Ahikam Pasion)
