THE province has been more peaceful during the Undas or long weekend this year compared to previous years, based on an assessment by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office.

According to Pangasinan PNP Provincial Director P/Col. Redrico Maranan, the province was generally peaceful with only 7 crimes reported but no crime incidents were reported in densely populated areas such as cemeteries, bus terminals, beaches and malls that were closely monitored by the PNP over the long holiday.

In 2017, 17 crimes were reported, and 14 in 2018.

According to Maranan, security screening was implemented effectively at the checkpoints, police assistance desks and motorist assistance desks in strategic areas.

Some 2,000 police officers were deployed alongside nearly 3,000 force multipliers who helped maintained order during the holiday.

Maranan also attributed notable decrease of fifty percent in crimes to the successful  serving of 749 search warrants against those who kept loose firearms or unlicensed firearms.

The campaign resulted in the confiscation of 1,072 unlicensed firearms.

Meanwhile, according to PPO records, 28 wanted persons have been arrested while on vacation during the long weekend in the province. (Nora Dominguez)
