3 men arrested for gambling in spider fighting
SAN QUINTIN—The relentless campaign of Pangasinan Police against illegal gambling netted three in the town for gambling on fighting spiders, a violation of Presidential Decree No. 602.
This, after three men were apprehended by the town police after they were spotted betting on a spider fight in Sitio Lincupan, Barangay Bantog, San Quintin in the afternoon of November 24.
Confiscated from the suspects Jesus Dirilo, 53, of Barangay Zone 2, Poblacion, San Quintin; Crisanto Quero, 45; and Johndyle Domingo, 26, of Barangay Baloy, Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija were P100 cash in different denominations, four small boxes containing 28 live spiders, one set of playing paraphernalia and 10 spider sticks.
Also seized by the police from the site were eight motorcycles and one motorized tricycle owned by other suspects who managed to scamper away when they saw the arresting policemen.
In early years, spider fighting used to be played only by boys aged four to 12 for recreation, not gambling. (Leonardo Micua)
