Espino backs barangay, SK polls postponement

LINGAYEN—If Gov. Amado Espino III can have his way, he said a postponement of the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) elections augurs well for the province because incumbent barangay officials can still focus on their plans and programs instead of politics.

“If they have election next year, they will be focusing on politics as early as January next year,” the governor said in an interview last week.

Espino said the province is focused on security issues that affect agriculture, health “and even life itself,” and the help of barangay officials is critical.

Commission on Elections provincial election supervisor lawyer Marino Sala earlier said Comelec continues to prepare for the B/SK elections 2020 until the postponement bill is enacted into law.

The bill seeking to postpone the elections to December 5, 2022 was approved by the Senate last week. (Helen Martin)
