SUAL–Some 100 kilos of rotten milkfish stored in five styrofoam boxes and one round plastic tub (banyera) were seized by the town police implementing Oplan Sita while being transported by a motorized tricycle bound to the Alaminos City Market on the night of October 10.

Arrested driving the tricycle was Joe Caburao, 24, and the owner of the shipment, Janette Baretto, 29, both of Barangay Baquioen, Sual, the source of the intercepted milkfish.

The cargo was examined by Benjamin Clark Cruz, of the Fishery Protection and Law Enforcement Group who found these to be unfit for human consumption. These were sourced where fish kill occurred.

A case for violation of Republic Act 8550 as amended by R.A 10654 and or R.A 7394 is now being prepared against the arrested suspects.

Several other shipments of rotten milkfish were intercepted earlier in Labrador and Dagupan City, all of which also came from Sual. (Leonardo Micua)
