First solar energy plant soon in Sta. Barbara
A solar energy plant is set to rise in Barangay Erfe, Sta. Barbara capable of generating 20 megawatts of electric power for the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp).
Randy Castillan, Decorp spokesman, said the power plant is set to be constructed by a private company and the power supply agreement between the owner of the solar plant and Decorp was already approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in Manila.
Castillan said the first phase of the project will generate 10 megawatts while the second phase to be built the following year will produce another 10 megawatts.
Decorp hailed the project because it will be assured of an additional supply of power for its growing number of customers within its service areas.
On its own, Decorp already installed a solar panel in its office to generate minimal power for its own requirements.
Meanwhile, Pedro Paramio Jr., planning and construction chief of the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco), said their company is also conducting a study on the feasibility of constructing a five-megawatt solar plant.
He said if the study is found feasible, the solar plant will be built in San Carlos City. (Leonardo Micua)
