Bishops will comply with law – Villegas
WHEN four of the country’s bishops
received the news about their inclusion as respondents in the case of sedition
and other crimes filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection
Group-Philippine National Police before the Department of Justice, their first
response was prayer.
In their fraternal message dated Sept. 7, 2019 of Teodoro C. Bacani Jr, Bishop
Emeritus of Novaliches; Honesto F. Ongtioco, Bishop of Cubao; Pablo VirgiIio S.
David, Bishop of Kalookan and Socrates B. Villegas, Archbishop of Lingayen
Dagupan, they said they held no press conferences together, begged off from
interviews, attended no rallies but chose to pray.

Villegas quoted the four bishops saying prayer is their best weapon against
every evil. “Prayer is power. This is a good time to be reminded of
this,” they added.
They maintained that there is
separation of Church and State, they said “there must be no separation between
God and country.”
They also reiterated their appeal to their accusers. “There is joy and
peace in living in the truth. We reach out to you in peace.”
They added that as shepherds of God’s people, “The Lord did not send us to
defend ourselves… but, as citizens, we comply with the due processes of
law.”
They said they pray instantly for their accusers. “May they meet the God
of all Truths, be touched by His grace and stay away from the prince of
lies,” and invite Peter Joemel Advincula claiming to be “Bikoy” in the
“Ang Totoong Narcolist” video to turn back to God.
The archbishops said they have been praying fervently too for the team of
prosecutors tasked to evaluate the case whom they believe Department of Justice
“adhere to the values of justice and truth.”
They said their defense for human life and the sacredness of marriage remains
