A notorious carnapping syndicate operating in Pangasinan was believed busted after one of their members was arrested in Manaoag town and identified his cohorts on the night of August 19.

The suspect, Jeffrey Perez alias “Manila Boy” and “Bornado”, 21, of Baliaug, Bulacan, is  presently a resident of Bagong Barrio in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City.

Initial investigation showed that Perez was spotted roaming around Barangay Babasit  in Manaoag riding a carnapped motorcycle which he was selling at a bargain since he could not produce documents of ownership.

This prompted prospective buyers to report him to the Manaoag Police, who in turn immediately responded and arrested Perez. It turned out that the motorcycle belongs to one Christian Lucas, 18, of Anolid, Mangaldan who lost it while it was parked unattended in front of his house.

During a tactical interrogation, the Manaoag Police learned, the suspect and his cohorts were responsible for stealing other motorcycles and motorized tricycles in Calasiao, Lingayen, San Carlos, Mangaldan and Urdaneta City.

He identified his cohorts only as certain “Joshua”, “Erick”, “R-Jay” and “KC”, all of Sitio Aling on Arellano Street, Pantal, Dagupan City. They are now the object of operations by the police.

Lateral coordination made by the Manaoag Police with their counterparts in Rosario, Ago and Aringay, La Union, as well as in San Jacinto and San Fabian, Pangasinan led to the recovery of most of the motorcycles and motorized tricycles stolen by the group.

Cases for violation of Republic Act No. 10883 (carnapping) and RA 9165 (violations of the anti-drugs law) are now being readied against the suspect. (Leonardo Micua)
