10,000 students trained on hands-only CPR
SOME 10,000 elementary and high
school students in 75 public schools in San Carlos City joined thousands others
in a nationwide campaign to save life and to train on hands-only
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The training was conducted on July 26 at the Don Federico Mandapat Sports Dome
by the Philippine Heart Association (PHA), Department of Health (DOH),
Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and local health and emergency responders, to
prepare for the implementation of the mandatory CPR for K-12 students as
mandated by R.A. 10871, (also known as CPR Act which mandates the
implementation of compulsory CPR training of students in public and private
schools).
PHA President Dr. Aurelia Leus told the students “by being CPR-trained, you
have the edge in emergency situations”. She said it is the knowledge and social
immersion of a lifetime for every Filipino.
The conduct of the Mass CPR was in celebration of the third year anniversary of
RA 10871.
Today, the CPR-ReadyPh.21/CPR on
Wheels & Wings (CWW) has reached 260,000 after San Carlos City posted a
turnout of 10,000 Grades 4 to 12 students in the city’s 75 public schools.
With the city’s 10,000 CPR achievement, San Carlos emerged as the CPR-Ready/CWW
top performer and producer of student lifesavers.
Dr. Sheila Marie Primicias, San
Carlos City School Division Superintendent, said a monthly hands-only CPR
trainings will be conducted to make San Carlos CPR-Ready as committed to the
city government.
She said across the country, four hubs were selected for this training, one of
them is her division. (PhilStar Wire
