Oversupply of bangus fingerlings noted
THERE is a glut in the supply of bangus fingerlngs today after a period of scarcity last year.

Rosario, center chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National
Integrated Fisheries and Technology Development Center in Dagupan City.
He said bangus and other fisheries products production increased by 1.1% in the
first quarter after he encouraged production of wild fry, production.
He said there was 300 percent accomplishment
in hatchery construction then under his watch as head of the national program
on bangus fry sufficiency.
“Supposedly the P1 per inch-sized fry which now became two inches in size and
should be sold at P2 but unfortunately there are no buyers,” Rosario said. “But
still no takers even as P1,” he added.
He said incidence of flooding was a
factor in last year’s scarce supply, and there has been no serious flooding
this year so far.
“No flooding, everything is okay.
The production from the wild is also fine because I have been monitoring my own
focal persons in different areas and all of them said it was very good,”
Rosario said.
Fingerlings’ size is about one inch
for a month of growing but ideally, it only takes 60 days for growing in the
nursery, he said. After two months, these must be already be disposed of, he
