Expansion of Lingayen Airport delayed
LINGAYEN — There is still no chance for Pangasinan to have an airport service any time soon.
This was theviewexpressed by Lingayen Airport officer in charge Elvis Dela Cruz citing the absence of funding for the proposed expansion of the Lingayen airport and other proposals for the construction of runways and lot acquisition in either Sta. Barbara or Alaminos City.
Dela Cruz said the estimated cost for the extension of runway in Lingayen alone will cost P34.92 million while the lot acquisition will cost P155.2 million.
Without extending the runway, no commercial flights can operate from Lingayen and will continue to be limited to small aircrafts.
The minimum length of runway to operate commercial flights is 1,520 meters.
At most, only the P37.8 asphalt overlay of runway for the Lingayen Airport here will be implemented this year.
The construction of the fire station building and construction of staff house were already completed.
Other initial improvements that can be implemented this year are the concreting of 66 meters x 48 meters apron with drainage canal and the construction of runway canal and improvement of perimeter fence worth; and installation of an additional septic tank.
Gov. Amado Espino III and Department of Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade had discussed the requirements for the operation of commercial flights to and from Pangasinan during the latter’s visit to the province. (Helen Martin)
