CALASIAO – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Regional District Office here reminded business establishments to pay taxes properly and on time, or face possible closure.

Ernesto Mangabat, Revenue District Officer, said a number of business establishments in the province were closed recently, by their Oplan Kandado program.

He cited the cases of one business establishment in Dagupan, and two in Bayambang for failing to pay proper taxes.

“Oplan Kandado is a part of BIR enforcement programs that orders the closure of establishments of delinquent taxpayers, and lifts the same after taxpayer pays the right taxes, ” he said.

Despite the authority to close, Mangabat clarified that due process is followed before a business will be locked down.

“We are monitoring this through the cash register”, he added.

Among the grounds for the closure include failure to issue receipts, failure to file VAT returns, failure to register, and understatement of taxable sales by 30% or more.

“If the business does not pay, we will forward the case to our legal department, and the closure of the business will be processed”, Mangabat added.

Meanwhile, the BIR reminds families to take advantage of the amnesty program for Estate Tax, lower tax rate for the transfer of the estate of the deceased to the heirs. (Chub Pasion)
