SAN CARLOS CITY—The Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco) is gearing up for the rainy season to ease the effect of possible widespread power interruptions.

Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, Cenpelco general manager, said part of their preparations is the construction of additional substations.

He said there are towns that are presently experiencing power outage whenever the 69-kilovolt line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines Labrador Sub-Station bogs down because there is only one substation for many towns.

To avoid massive brownout, additional substations have become necessary, Corpuz said.

He added the substations for Lingayen and Malasiqui are nearing completion.

Cenpelco targets to build 16 substations to cushion the impact of frequent power interruption.

Corpuz added Cenpelco is also replacing old electric wooden posts installed about four decades ago with new steel posts which are sturdier. (PhilStar Wire Service)
