347 barangays still drug affected —PD Maranan
WAR ON DRUGS SCORECARD
HOW is Pangasinan PNP fairing in the war on drugs?
New police provincial director, P/Col. Redrico Maranan, who vows to continue the unrelenting fight against illegal drugs in Pangasinan, has established what lies ahead for him by confirming that out of the 1,364 barangays in the province, 1,017 barangays have so far been cleared to date, or 347 barangays are still drug affected.
In a talk over Aksyon Radyo Dagupan, Maranan pointed out that 1,023 barangays were actually already cleared of illegal drugs, but six barangays were reverted to “drug-affected ” status because of the confirmed reports that drug pushers in the six barangays have resurfaced.
He said it’s a setback but he aims to clear all the remaining 347 barangays of illegal drugs.. “From there we will continue to clear 100 percent of the 1,364 barangays in Pangasinan,” Maranan said, adding it can be achieved with the help of Anti-Drug Abuse Councils in cities, municipalities and barangays.
The six villages will have to undergo drug-clearing operations again and will be reverted to their drug-cleared status once all the drug pushers are fully accounted for and neutralized.
He affirmed that his command will work closely with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to achieve his mission.
He cited the busting of the more than 88 kilos of shabu in Urdaneta City last week as an impressive accomplishment of his predecessor, P/ Col. Wilson Lopez because one of the five Chinese nationals arrested in that operation is the major distributor of illegal drugs not only in Pangasinan but also in the nearby provinces, but of the people because it was they who provided the information that resulted in the raid.
He gave the assurance that there will be no let-up in the campaign in Pangasinan, adding that it is the marching order from PNP chief Oscar Albayalde, regional director P/ Brig. Gen. Joel Orduna and Gov. Amado Espino III. (Leonardo Micua)
