Immigration bureau warns foreigners vs. fixers

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI)-Dagupan Field Office has warned resident foreigners not to transact business with its office through fixers.

Christopher John Abella, alien control officer of BI-Dagupan Field Office, said his office does not entertain representations by fixers.

Abella said they should directly discuss their concerns with immigration personnel to avoid being victimized by unscrupulous fixers who claim they can guarantee release of documents.

He also appealed to the public during his talk at the ‘Pantongtongan Tayo’ (Pag-usapan Natin) radio program of PIA Pangasinan aired over DZMQ Radyo Pilipinas Dagupan on Tuesday to report to their office any activity of foreigners who might be violating the immigration laws, rules and regulations.

“Let us kick the bad guys out of the Philippines. Inform our office about foreigners who are doing illegal activities,” he said.

“Our office is located at the G/F of People’s Astrodome in Tapuac District, Dagupan City or you can call us at (075) 523-4047,” he added.

Abella added that the bureau has imposed stricter requirements and procedures in issuing work permits to foreigners to protect local workers.

He said that no work permit will be issued to foreign applicants seeking employment as construction workers, cashiers, waiters, janitors, security guards, garbage collectors and carpenters.

He explained that under the law, work permits can only be issued to foreigners if no Filipinos are able and willing to do the job being applied for. (PIA Pangasinan/AMB)
