Citizens report rampant vote-buying
THE office of the election supervisor of Pangasinan confirmed that it has been receiving reports of rampant vote-buying in many towns and cities.
Lawyer Eric Oganiza, officer-in-charge election supervisor of Pangasinan, said right now as the campaign is into the homestretch, said it is the usual complaint reaching various Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices from opposing camps.
To enable Comelec to act on the complaints, Organiza urged complainants to take pictures, identify the candidate/s involved, put their complaint in writing and submit it to their Law Department. He said they will consider it as a form of written complaint.
However, Oganiza said that it is unfortunate that when the candidate of a complainant has already won, the complainants simply abandon their complaint “so we in the Comelec are left hanging”.
“During the presentation of evidence, if we cannot present witnesses the complaint is dismissed for failure to prosecute,” he added.
Meanwhile, Oganiza said police troops for augmentation have been sent off on Monday for their respective election assignment in different towns and cities in Pangasinan. (PhilStar Wire Service)
