FAMILIES in Anda and Bolinao who are dependent on the shellfish industry can now return to their trade after the regional office of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) lifted the shellfish ban in the two towns’ coastal waters.

The lifting of the shellfish ban was contained in the Regional Shellfish Advisory No. 3 issued by BFAR on Tuesday, May 21 stating that shellfish harvested from these areas are already safe for human consumption.

Lilibeth Signey, regional director of BFAR, said the confirmatory testing conducted by the National Fisheries Laboratory Division in Manila showed that the shellfish samples collected were negative of paralytic shellfish poison.

“The gathering, transporting, marketing and eating of shellfish harvested from these towns in Western Pangasinan are now permitted after these areas are now declared free from red tide toxin,” Signey said in a statement.  (PIA Pangasinan/AMB/Philstar Wire Services)
