Dagupan artists’ group wins contest anew

PISTA’Y DAYAT BOAT PAINTING

LINGAYEN — For the second time in a row, the Grupong Muralista, an artists group from Dagupan City emerged champion in the boat painting contest of Pista’y Dayat celebration.

Other winners were Pinarsua artist group from Binalonan (1st runner-up); and the Narukbos Burgos team from Burgos (2nd runner-up).

Twenty local artists groups from all over Pangasinan participated in the contest, interpreting the theme: “Dayat Mi, Bilay tan Aro Mi” in their masterpieces.

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office Chief Malu Elduayan and the panel of judges led by ASNA awardee for visual arts Jose F. Datuin led the awarding of prizes to the winners on April 13 at the Provincial Training and Development Center.

Datuin, said the main factor considered in judging was “the elegance and sophistication in simplicity of presentation.”

“There is sophistication in a simple design with a good concept. Simplicity of design will make you stand out,” Datuin told the budding local artists.

Elduayan, on the other hand, said the boat painting contest and other activities related to arts and crafts were directed by Gov. Amado I. Espino, III to support and further inspire local artists in the province.

Cash prizes and trophies were awarded: Php 25,000 (champion), Php 15,000 (1st runner-up), and Php 10,000 (2nd runner-up). Participants received Php 2,500 consolation prize.

The contest proper was held at the Motorpool bay of the Provincial Engineering Office at the Capitol Complex.

The painted boat replicas shall be used for the “Dulang” boodle fight, which will be held at the Baywalk area of the Capitol beachfront right after the Pistay Dayat commemorative program ‪on May 1. (PIO/MGNO)
