PCW certifies LGU-P’sinan GAD Local Learning Hub

LINGAYEN – The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) certified the Province of Pangasinan as Gender and Development (GAD) Local Learning Hub for its efforts in empowering women and programs promoting gender equality.

Receiving the award from PCW Commissioner Sandra Sanchez-Montano, Governor Amado I. Espino, III took pride in receiving accolade for the province which further attests the efforts of the local government in gender-responsiveness especially to women.

The glass marker states that the Province of Pangasinan is cited “for its efforts in gender-responsive local governance towards the promotion of human rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of all women and girls.”

 “This is one of the things that we strive to achieve,” said Governor Espino as he pledged full support of the provincial government through its Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO) in sustainable projects that will benefit the women sector.

As such, the provincial chief executive hailed all women employees in celebration of the National Women’s Month.

In awarding the glass marker to the provincial executives, PCW Commissioner Montano said that this award embodies the notable programs of the province for women and children.

“The province of Pangasinan is among the responsive LGUs in addressing problems and issues faced by the women,” said Montano as she commended the provincial government led by Governor Espino for joining the crusade in promoting gender equality.

“It is safe to say that women in Pangasinan are safe,” Montano stressed noting that Pangasinan remains true to safeguarding the welfare of women and children not only during women’s month but all year long.

Hence, Montano stated that the PCW is open to idea of conducting seminar-workshops on platforms of the PCW in partnership with the provincial government to further expand the gender and development approach in the province.

Montano also urged other LGUs to become local learning hubs to work hand in hand with existing GAD local learning hubs in implementing programs of PCW.

It was noted that Pangasinan is among the seven LGUs in the country who received the citation from the PCW.

In the same way, Pangasinan’s Crisis Intervention Center also received a citation for providing and sustaining gender-responsive programs and services to women and children in difficult circumstances.

“This affirms the responsiveness of Pangasinan Crisis Intervention Center to women and children in times of natural calamaities and other emergencies,” Montano disclosed.

The GAD Local Learning Hubs is an annual activity of the PCW which aims to showcase innovative GAD structures, processes and programs that have been sustained, if not improved by LGUs through the years. /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
