Budget wrangling delays boardwalk project

CONSTRUCTION of Phase II of the boardwalk project in Tondaligan Park by the Department of Public Works and Highways hangs in the balance as the 2019 General  Appropriations Act is still the subject of wrangling by both Houses of Congress.

This was disclosed by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, who initiated the board walk project from Tondaligan to Bonuan Binloc.

De Venecia said the boardwalk project is a  three-year project  and funding of  Phase II of the project is contained in the 2019 General Appropriations Act

He said while Mayor Belen Fernandez is improving the physical facilities of Tondaligan, he is complimenting it by constructing the boardwalk to serve as bicycle lane and a venue for jogging and leisurely walking in mornings and afternoons.

De Venecia said that while Phase I is now nearing completion, families visiting Tondaligan can now walk over there and relax while enjoying the cool breeze from the Lingayen Gulf this summer.

He is also doing the same project in neighboring San Fabian, starting in Barangay Bolasi.

Mayor Fernandez said the boardwalk is different from the baywalk built by Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil because it is only intended for bicycle riders, joggers and for walking.

The other tourism development project of De Venecia is in the beach of the island barangay of Pugaro which is now ongoing and an esplanade along the river in Barangay Pantal where a property owner already donated 1,800 square meters of land to where the project will be situated.

De Venecia is also assisting the Dagupan City government in developing the Enarangan Lake in Barangay Malued as another tourist destination in Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
