118 persons arrested for gun ban violation

THE campaign for the enforcement of the Commission on Elections’ ban firearms and other deadly weapons in Region 1 that started in January 13, already resulted in the arrest of 118 persons.

According P/Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula, Police Region 1 director, the number included 115 civilians and three government officials employees.

Based on the data from PRO1’s National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC),
seized from the 118 suspects were 91 assorted firearms composed of 20 pistols, 36 revolvers, six rifles, four shotguns, one light weapon, 11 improvised firearms and 14 firearm replicas.

Other deadly weapons seized included 13 bladed weapons, 26 grenade explosives and 660 assorted ammunition.

Sapitula said the suspects were arrested during checkpoints and  buy-bust operations of  Oplan Sita and Oplan Bakal.

Sapitula encouraged firearm holders to surrender their firearms to the nearest police station in their location for safekeeping.

He said the continuous conduct of police operations seeks to bring about safe and secure National Election 2019 on May 13. (Leonardo Micua)
