MANGALDAN — A reorientation on the Department of Education Child Protection Policy by all education officials and school principals in Pangasinan Division 2 Schools was ordered following the death of a high school student of Mangaldan National High School (MNHS) who was allegedly beaten up by three of his schoolmates.

Schools Superintendent Donato Balderas issued a memorandum dated Jan. 17 with specific instructions for compliance. 

“Anent this matter and to prevent similar incident, all school principals are advised to conduct a re-orientation on the DepEd Child Protection Policy and to mandatorily incorporate the same in their messages and talks in their flag raising ceremonies, “Balderas said after Kenneth Langit, 19, Grade 11, died on Jan. 17 at the Region 1 Medical Center because of mauling inside the MNHS campus.

Balderas added that guidance counselors and class advisers have also been advised to conduct guidance and homeroom activities at least once a week without fail.

“While every school is mandated to look into the safety and welfare of its students at all times, and in addition to the security measures being undertaken already by schools, this Office directs all principals to design and submit specific measures peculiar of their school’s characteristics and needs to further enhance already existing security and safety procedures for their pupils and students,” he added.

 The same measures shall be applied to parents and guardians of students, he said, and he  asked them to pray for Langit.

Suspects George Calimlim, 19, Jayson Soriano, 22 and Jay-Ar Biagtan, 21, all Grade 12 students of MNHS, are facing homicide charges and presently detained at the town police station’s detention cell.
