LINGAYEN–Four  persons were arrested and charged by the police separately for violation of the gun ban as provided in the Omnibus Election Law for illegal possession of firearms and deadly weapons  last week in separate towns of Pangasinan.

One of the suspects was arrested in checkpoint operation, two through police response, another through the implementation of Oplan Bakal but one was not found in his house when policemen implemented a search warrant but cases were nevertheless filed against him.

Arrested in a checkpoint operation in Baay, Lingayen at 10:25 p.m. on January 20 was Ernanie Ocampo, 55, of Pacdal, Baguio City, who was with his family on board a vehicle. 

In plain view, using a flashlight, PO1 Duke Paul Tuazon, a member of the police team manning the checkpoint, saw one Caliber 45 pistol inside the vehicle. Ocampo was promptly invited to the Lingayen Police Station for investigation.

Arrested by the police while responding to separate alerts were Judy Racio, alias “Papar de Vera, 42, a welder of San Leon, Umingan; and Apollo Tamayo, 49, of Barangay Roxas, Anda.

Racio was arrested after a concerned citizen alerted the police via text message that he was selling illegal drugs on board his motorcycle with an improvised hand gun tucked in his waist.

Meanwhile, Tamayo was arrested when police responded to a report that he was maltreating his wife Mary Jane, 49, while drunk inside their house. Responding policemen confiscated from Tamayo one folded knife measuring eight inches.

A case for violation of Republic Act 9262 and Illegal Possession of Deadly Weapon in relation to Omnibus Election Code was filed by the police against Racio.

In Urdaneta City, Arman Durilo, 44, an electrician from Nueva Ecija, was arrested when lawmen implementing “Oplan Bakal” found a stainless super knife in his possession while drinking inside a KTV bar on in Barangay Nancayasan.

 Durillo is now facing cases for violation of Batas Pambansa Bilang 6 in relation to Section 2 (a) of Comelec Resolution No. 10446 or the carrying of deadly weapon.

Meanwhile, Ronnie Silao, a former drug surrenderer, was nowhere in his house when lawmen implemented a search warrant for violation of R.A. 9165 at about 4:25 a.m. on  January 22.

Confiscated from his house were four aluminum foil strips, four pieces of small heat-sealed
transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance of suspected shabu valued at P3,000, and a Cal. 38 pistol loaded with three bullets.
